This is a seminar-style course that examines a broad selection of secondary literature on a selected topic in Chinese philosophy. The topic may vary from year to year. Topics that may be covered include issues in ethics, moral psychology, action theory, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysics, along with interpretive controversies concerning major thinkers and texts from different periods in the history of Chinese thought. Course readings focus on recent work in the Chinese- and English-language research literature addressing the course topic. More than half of the class time will be devoted to student-led discussion of research articles. Each student will take turns leading discussion.
